Our name ... Stretch Core ... just begins to tell the story!
Stretching
Stretching is a form of physical exercise in which a specific skeletal muscle (or muscle group) is deliberately elongated, often by abduction from the torso, in order to improve the muscle's felt elasticity and reaffirm comfortable muscle tone. The result is a feeling of increased muscle control, flexibility and range of motion. (from Wikipedia)
Core Strength
Core strength is the balanced development of the deep and superficial muscles that stabilize, align, and move the trunk of the body, especially the abdominals and muscles of the back. Also Known As: core stability.
That being said, you may ask 'How does stretching and core strength affect my overall health?' That, is a good question.
Having a well developed 'core strength' and regular stretching exercise can affect many things. Your stability, your posture, your balance and your mobility are just a few of these things. 'How?', you ask? Again, good question.
Let's examine just one of these factors ... 'mobility'. Say you have a lower back injury and as you heal, you try your best to walk and move as you normally would. Sometimes, the pain involved with a back injury is intense ... others times, perhaps not so much, and at still other times, just moving as you might normally, can sometimes cause an increase in pain or the intensity of the pain you feel.
The body and mind, being the marvelous 'machines' they are, try to help and you may find that you are walking and moving somewhat differently, in order to accomodate your condition and relieve or alleviate the pain. Some movements, although possible, may make you feel less able to move in a way you normally do.
Building and maintaining your core ... having good 'core strength' and doing stretching exercise, can help!
It's like the old song says ...
